I wrote this at home in Colorado in anticipation of this project. It started out as a song about rural life and quickly evolved into a spritual. The vision I had to write the song was about water and everything in it that sustains families. I drifted away from that idea to a more spiritual theme. One of my goals for this recording was to come up with a spiritual song, for those who value spiritual music. I’ve always enjoyed the artists in popular American music that have roots in spirituals, like Aretha and many artists that I have toured and performed with in the south. Many were brought up on the music of the church.
Musically, it ended up being very close to the preproduction. So, I had a good feeling for the song from the beginning. Most of the players here have experience with spiritual music and were able to inject that experience into the recording.
