I came up with the words to this tune first, before the music, intentionally trying to craft they lyrics. I remember struggling with trying to play guitar while looking at the lyrics and coming up with the right cadence. Then I decided to let the lines cross over into the next verse naturally. I wanted a sort of country rock feel to the tune, which was hard for me. I went through several versions in preproduction. The lyrics speak to a relationship coming apart. The main character talks about how perfect this woman is for him, while at the same time, begging her not to leave. It has a real Louisiana rural country feel. It could have easily become a waltz… When it went down in the studio, we had to really work on it to get it the way I wanted it to be. When the fiddle finally was recorded, it all came together for me.
