about

Written specifically for this album. In the context of the migration of mound culture, the mode of transportation was mainly on foot (Natchez Trace). A guy walking to his girlfriend’s house maybe 3 miles away. As everything back then was far away. He was dedicated to her and walked all that way. This was intended to be a dance tune. I looked up Creole songs for this one and checked out the bpm on some of the more popular tunes. From there, I wanted a chorus that had an ascending line and a verse that had a descending line or vice versa. Opposing lines in the chord structure. I wanted there to be a key change at the end of the verse, and I wanted the ending to have a key change. I came up with it all by listening to my favorite music over time and borrowing some elements. I knew it would be a bit chordy and somewhat complicated, but hopeful that the outcome would be a really fun tune to listen to. I think we were successful.

lyrics

JAMIE RAE -CARY MORIN

MUDDY ROAD I’M WALKING
MUDDY ROAD BABY I WALK ON ALONE
JAMIE RAE CAN’T YOU HEAR ME TALKIN
I JUST CAN’T KEEP AWAY
JAMIE RAE
BABY YOU KNOW IT’S TRUE
MY FOOTPRINT TO BROUSSARD AND YOU

I CAN’T STOP THINKING OF YOU
I’M GONNA MAKE A LIFE FOR YOU
JAMIE REA

THE SKY CLEARED UP FOR A BIT LAST NIGHT
SMILING ON ME WAS GRANDMOTHER MOON
AW SHE LIT UP MY WAY ON THE ROAD TO YOU
I’M ON MY WAY
JAMIE REA BABY YOU KNOW IT’S TRUE
WHY DON’T YOU SAY WHAT YOUR HEART WANTS TO

I CAN’T STOP THINKING OF YOU
I’LL MAKE A LIFE FOR YOU
JAMIE REA

(INSTRUMENTAL)

MAMA SAYS YOU BEST STAY HOME SON
NAW THAT GIRL AIN’T FOR YOU
